“Waking up to who you are...
requires letting go of who you imagine yourself to be.”
I believe we each hold in our hearts the wisdom and the power to build and sustain rich, meaningful relationships and lives, even amid circumstances (and pasts) that are beyond our control. There is so much within our control when we are ready to give ourselves to that.
My primary approaches to therapy are Internal Family Systems (IFS), Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy (in-person), and Narrative Therapy. IFS therapy is an evidenced-based approach that has proven to be highly effective at helping clients connect more deeply with their feelings to resolve tenaciously stuck patterns in their lives. The basic principle is that we are each comprised of multiple parts (the conflicted and sometimes silent voices in our heads). These can include the internalized voices of others, handed down from generation to generation, as well as voices representing individual aspects of our being that work overtime to keep us safe and happy. Typically, we also have parts who have gone into exile (along with core gifts and desires), who are now stuck there, protected by the parts who’ve taken over, and who now seem to define who we are and how we show up in the world.
IFS therapy involves getting to know these parts—all of whom are welcome—and learning how to integrate their needs, concerns, and the treasures they hold. Through this integration, relationship to the authentic Self deepens, and we encounter long forgotten resources.
Biodynamic Cranial Sacral therapy is an assisted and integrative embodiment practice, received while lying on a massage table fully clothed. There is no manipulation of tissues or structure. The therapist instead engages in gentle holds to the head, feet, sacrum, spine and other areas of the body where inertial forces are limiting expression of the body's intelligence as a whole. BCST works similarly to IFS, but through hands-on attunement/communication, rather than through verbally guided exercises. In the end, client's report feeling more spacious and at ease; and connected to more inner resource (clarity, confidence, creativity, motivation, etc).
Often times, BCST and IFS work hand in hand to open relationship between the Self and one's exiled Parts. If you are unable to attend sessions in-person, know that my work/training as an RCST (Registered Cranial Sacral Therapist) also informs my practice of talk-therapy.
I welcome your questions, and would be honored to join you on your journey.
